MOVIE HORROR STORIESby Andrea Hands down, my worst experience was going to see Blade 2 with a friend of mine. The theater was crawling with kids. That's not even the worst part, although that's bad enough. It's an "R" rated vampire film filled with violence, bad language, blood, etc. Kids shouldn't be there in the first place. We sat in front of a woman and her two young boys. By "young" I mean four and six years old, at the most. The youngest kid couldn't even read. How do I know that? Well, because the film had some subtitles when the vampires spoke in their own language, and every single time the words flashed across the screen, the kid behind me asked his mom, "What did he say?!" And then the mother would actually read the subtitles OUT LOUD to him!! I finally gave up when the kids started kicking our seats. Bad enough that both these tiny children who had no business watching a horror film were speaking in normal voices, and their mother was giving them a blow by blow of what was going on in the film because they were too young to understand it, but they also had to get fidgety on top of it. I turned to my friend and said in a loud voice, "We're moving." Parents, I don't care how precocious your children are. Don't take a four-year-old into any film that you have to actively explain to him, and read the subtitles for him! It means he isn't old enough to see it. Johnny: I agree. I'd also like to add that if you're illiterate, then stay away from movies with subtitles. But the problem extends beyond that. I've had people sit behind me who will read ANYTHING on the screen out loud. "Two Years Ago - New York City - 11:00 PM." Thanks, I couldn't read that myself, so you have helped me tremendously. People must really like the sound of their own voice. Moral of the Story: If you're illiterate, then learn to read before watching movies with subtitles. If you're child is too young to read subtitles, then he's too young to watch the movie. Otherwise, read the subtitles TO YOURSELF! Send your stories to me and let the whole world know just how dangerous going to the movies can be. |
