MOVIE HORROR STORIES

Have You Tried the Cough Medicine?
by Donna Ree

My family and I went to see Shark Tale.

This couple (with no kids) came in after the movie had started, but at least they sat down front (the theater had stadium seating) so that really wasn't the problem.

This guy, throughout the movie, kept coughing and clearing his throat, and I don't mean the polite kind of clearing his throat. It was like he was trying to hack up a lung or some other internal organ. The theater wasn't very full because we went to a matinee on a Friday afternoon, so I guess that's the reason no one really complained.

But I was so grossed out it was hard to pay attention or even hear the movie at some points. And you know how loud movies are played. It usually takes me awhile after a movie to get my full hearing back. So that's how loud this guy was.

He reminded me of when I was little and my grandpa used to smoke like a chimney and every time he went into the bathroom he'd always hack up... well I won't go into details. If you've ever been around a life-long smoker you'll know the sound I'm talking about.

My question is, if this guy was sick, why was he out in public? And if he wasn't sick, then why didn't his companion tell him to keep it down? That couldn't have been pleasant for her sitting right next to him. It was disturbing to me and we were at least 12 rows behind him.

I guess what I'm trying to say is if you're going to a movie to hack up an internal organ, please don't do it when I'm in the theater. Okay?

Johnny: Been there. A loud, constant cough is one of the most annoying, obnoxious things to have to listen to. It's especially bad at the movies because you simply can't get out of earshot.

Moral of the Story: If you've got a bad cough, and you're going to the movies, then try a little cough medicine beforehand. Otherwise, have you ever heard of muffling it? Give it a try.

Send your stories to me and let the whole world know just how dangerous going to the movies can be.
